When I work with children under the age of 10-years-old, I employ the therapeutic intervention known as play therapy.
Play therapy is based on the understanding that when young children experience emotional and behavioural difficulties, the practicality of a talk therapy approach is rather limited as young children may not be able to effectively communicate their internal distress using words. Play, is the natural means through which children learn, express their feelings, and work through difficulties with which they may be struggling. Therefore, I have found that using play in therapy is the most natural and effective way of helping distressed children.
I specialise in assisting children who are experiencing or displaying:
- Emotional and behavioural difficulties
- Separation anxiety
- Self-harming behaviours
- Excessive worrying
- Verbal and behavioural temper outbursts
- School refusal
