What to Expect

My approach to therapy is influenced by psychodynamic and psychoanalytic theory, which places emphasis on gaining insight into: (a) how past experiences play a role in determining present difficulties and (b) bringing a greater sense of awareness into present life. The aim of developing insight into yourself, is to ultimately allow for you to experience a more fulfilling and enjoyable life.

Therapy sessions occur consistently, typically on a weekly basis and the length of sessions range between 50 – 60 minutes. The length of a therapy session is largely determined by whether I am seeing a child, adolescent, adult, or couple.

I like to use the first 2 - 3 sessions of therapy as a ‘get to know you’ phase so that I can get a better sense of who you are, where you’ve come from, and what has brought you to therapy. During this time, I may ask you questions about your personal history, relationships, and so forth. This ‘get to know you’ phase also allows you to get a better sense of me, the way that I work, and to see if the fit that we have as psychologist-and-patient suits you.
